I took the risk of going out for some training on my Track bike on the road today with no brakes. I picked roads with no turnouts and managed to get in a few good workouts. Unfortunately I was a bit tired after my weekend exploits so I didn’t do as hard a workout as I would have liked. 29.2 MPH was my maximum speed but keeping that up for even 1 mile was really hard and my best average for the mile was 27.6MPH. Winds were pretty light today but I did have a slight tail wind on the May School Mile.
My last time at the track was 26.56MPH and the winners speed in last years Masters pursuit was an amazing 29.2MPH. I reckon doing such a speed over 3k from a standing start must have required 30MPH plus which for me would be a tall order on 48×15 even if I was strong enough. I suppose aero wheels could give me a MPH but that isn’t an available option to me for this Saturday’s champs. I would be really happy if I could break 4 minutes but that would require 27.8MPH.
